+
4.6 Boundaries
:The following footnote to 1.1 has now been included as a rule.
+
*Changed 4.6.4 to specify 2m boundary for spectators from tournament list field and 5m from war field. This is to accommodate the new rule allowing the waiving of lanyards on single-handed weapons in war combat.
:The term "combatant" is used in this book to refer to people who are actually fighting, whether with melee or missile weapons. The term "participant" is used to refer to everyone taking an active role in combat-related activities. Everyone on the field, combatant, auxiliary or non-combatant, is a participant. "Plumed participants" refers to both plumed combatants and plumed auxiliaries.
+
* Updated 4.6.5 to include "throwing weapons".

+
6. Target Areas and Acknowledgement of Blows
Changes to Combat Authorisation Requirements
+
7. Armour Requirements
;Section 2
+
7.9 General
:In Section 2, references to marshals with regards to authorising have been updated to Senior Marshals as appropriate. Only Senior Marshals can conduct armoured combat authorisations, as per the Marshal Handbook.
+
*Updated 7.9.1 to specify "Viscoelastic polymers and non-newtonian padding (i.e. Zoombang) are considered equivalent padding." As per most recent Society Marshals' handbook updates. This is due to the inability to inspect and ensure the effectiveness of Zoombang as equivalent body armour.
 +
*Updated 7.11.1.b.iii to specify that "kendo, lacrosse and street hockey gloves are not equivalent, but may be used as padding." in line with recent Society Marshals' handbook updates.

;2.1.1

+
*Added ability to waive the need for lanyards in war, as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update.
 +
8.3 Fibreglass Spears
 +
*Added 8.3.4 banning the use of 2” Mandrake™ thrusting tips on fibreglass spears as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update. This is due to a design fault in the item that allows them to deform and potentially enter faceplates.
 +
8.4 Thrusting Tips
 +
*Added 8.4.3.5 repeating the ban of the use of 2” Mandrake™ thrusting tips on fibreglass spears as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update, in this equally relevant area.

;2.1.3.a.i
+
10. Missile Weapon Standards
:2.1.3.a.i has been updated to clarify that a Heavy Combatant authorisation allows the participant to engage in heavy combat with melee weapons and to take the field as Plumed Combatant or Plumed Auxiliary.  And 2.1.3.a.ii has been updated that to act as a Plumed Combatant, a fighter also needs another weapon authorisation such as thrown weapon, combat archery or siege engine. Plumed Participant on its own only allows a fighter to act as a Plumed Auxiliary (banner bearer)
+

 +
*Corrected hyphenation of "sling-staffs" for consistency.

+

References to royal treaty were removed from the Society Marshal's Handbook March 2018. Updated to say "Authorisations shall not..." from "Authorisation cards shall not..."
+
*Added "Handle" definition.

 • 1 June 2023 - Procedures for changes to these rules updated to include the Earl Marshal, and indicate the order that approvals should be sought. This isn't a functional change, just accounting for the fact that the Kingdom Armoured Combat Marshal exists.

Changes announced 13 April 2022

The following changes were approved by the Board and Committee, and announced in court at Rowany Festival by Leofric and Sabine II.

4. Conventions of Combat

4.6 Boundaries

 • Changed 4.6.4 to specify 2m boundary for spectators from tournament list field and 5m from war field. This is to accommodate the new rule allowing the waiving of lanyards on single-handed weapons in war combat.
 • Updated 4.6.5 to include "throwing weapons".

6. Target Areas and Acknowledgement of Blows

 • Corrected hyphenation of open-faced for consistency.

7. Armour Requirements

7.9 General

 • Updated 7.9.1 to specify "Viscoelastic polymers and non-newtonian padding (i.e. Zoombang) are considered equivalent padding." As per most recent Society Marshals' handbook updates. This is due to the inability to inspect and ensure the effectiveness of Zoombang as equivalent body armour.
 • Updated 7.11.1.b.iii to specify that "kendo, lacrosse and street hockey gloves are not equivalent, but may be used as padding." in line with recent Society Marshals' handbook updates.

8. Melee Weapon Standards

8.1 General

 • Added ability to waive the need for lanyards in war, as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update.

8.3 Fibreglass Spears

 • Added 8.3.4 banning the use of 2” Mandrake™ thrusting tips on fibreglass spears as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update. This is due to a design fault in the item that allows them to deform and potentially enter faceplates.

8.4 Thrusting Tips

 • Added 8.4.3.5 repeating the ban of the use of 2” Mandrake™ thrusting tips on fibreglass spears as per the recent Society Marshals' handbook update, in this equally relevant area.

10. Missile Weapon Standards

10.1 General

 • Corrected hyphenation of "sling-staffs" for consistency.

13. Glossary

Weapons

 • Changed to "Approved rigid material" in line with the recent Society Marshals' handbook update.
 • Added "Haft" definition.
 • Added "Handle" definition.
