Equestrian Draft:Equestrian Programme

Introduction

1. The rules are designed to promote safe equestrian activities in the Society.within Lochac? (these are Lochac's rules)
2. However, no matter how clear or accurate, rules cannot replace common sense, good judgment, and concern for the participants and equines. If a question arises when applying these standards choose the answer that promotes the greatest degree of safety for all.
3. Hierarchy of these rules vs Society rules...these ones win...

Equestrian activities and jurisdiction

1. The Equestrian Marshallate has jurisdiction over all SCA equestrian activities and related activities.

   Equestrian and equestrian-related activities fall under the jurisdiction of the Earl Marshal, and by delegation, the Kingdom Equestrial Officer and the equestrian marshallate have jurisdiction over all SCA equestrian activities and related activities.

2. A Kingdom may develop Equestrian Mounted Archery, Thrown Weapons, or Mounted Combat programs which provide for the safe oversight of Mounted Archery, Thrown Weapons or Mounted Combat by the Equestrian Marshallate of the Kingdom, but may not require Target Archery Marshal or an Armoured Combat Marshal participation.

   There should be no "Kingdoms may" in these rules - Lochac's rules don't set rules for other kingdoms. We can say "Society rules allow Lochac to develop...."

   Lochac has programmes for: /list of things we have programmes for...equestrian mounted archery, thrown weapons, or mounted combat.

   Our equestrian activities do not require target archery marshal or armoured combat marshal participation.  ??Except that we have a pre-requisite of TAM for mounted archery marshal?

3. SCA equestrian activities include, but are not limited to:

   Maybe these are a definition list with example of what the activity is?

   • riding
   • driving
   • packing and carting
   • horse-handling
   • processions
   • games
   • thrown weapons
   • archery
   • combat
   • use of other period equipment while mounted/driving
   • jousting
   • marshalling
   • authorising (this feels like it's captured by the other bits)
   • and ground crewing.
4. SCA equestrian-related activities include:
   • being present at equestrian activities as an observer
   • any other activity related, however slight, to equestrian activities at events held by the Society for Creative Anachronism, Incorporated.

   the SCA? to cover affiliates (we aren't SCA Inc) Also this one feels really tautological... Also does a class on 14th C horse equipment fall under the marshallate??

5. Only equines (i.e. horses, asses, mules, zorses, and donkeys) may participate in SCA equestrian activities. Requests to bring non-equine large herbivore herd animals over 136kg (for example: cows, camels, llamas) to SCA events for demonstrations of historically relevant activities appropriate to the specific animal must follow the SCA demo policy. Non-equine demonstrations fall under the jurisdiction of the seneschal. In addition, these requests must be approved by the Equestrian Marshallate.

   whose demo policy? Why does the equestrian marshallate need to approve non-equine demos if they aren't in your jurisdiction?
