Two-deep policy

  1. All SCA Youth Armoured Combat activities including practices, events, demos, and wars must be under the continuous supervision of at least one background checked adult marshal, warranted in the relevant discipline, and at least one additional unrelated adult (two-deep policy).

Marshal-in-charge

  1. Only a warranted Youth Armoured Combat Marshal may be the marshal-in-charge (MiC) of a Youth Armoured Combat event.
  2. The marshal-in-charge at any official event, including practices, is responsible for:
    1. ensuring that all waiver and background check policies are complied with.
    2. preparing (or having prepared) all required reports and forms.
    3. ensuring that there are enough marshals and constables to control the activity. Why are constables listed? What authority do they have in a martial activity?
  3. checking that the field can be safely fought upon and an appropriate buffer zone is provided between the list or battlefield and spectators as necessary.
  4. Ensuring that prior to any combat (practice or tournament) all equipment be inspected and meets all safety and armor requirements pertaining to the appropriate division.

Marshals

The responsibilities of Youth Armoured Combat Marshals include:

    1. Assist the marshal-in-charge as required.
    2. Monitor activities and behavior on the field and immediately stop all potentially hazardous or unchivalrous activities.
    3. Supervise Youth Armoured Combat training activities
  1. Marshals on the field are expected to take an active role in safety, sportsmanship and assistance in calibration. Youth Armoured Combat Marshals have a greater responsibility to intervene than their counterparts in adult martial activities. The younger the combatants, the more active the marshaling becomes.
  2. Marshals shall remove from the field any combatant who refuses to obey the commands of the marshals or other officials.
